Commissioned by Pima County, Troy Neiman has created a memorial art installation using dichroic glass that changes colour depending on the viewing angle and light conditions.

“The new facility for the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner contains a columbarium which holds the remains of deceased individuals who have yet to be identified and reunited with their families. The artwork is suspended above the columbarium in the courtyard used by staff and visitors. The artwork stands as a memorial to those who have lost their lives to unnatural causes in our community and to the ongoing crisis of migrant deaths along our border. The piece evokes the image of an eternal flame which casts ever changing, stained-glass-like refractions throughout the courtyard, and stands as a solemn monument to honor the lives of the deceased.”

Within the courtyard, a small section of MEGAgrip channel holds a 27mm thick piece of engraved dichroic glass.
