Product Development at Pure Vista
Learn how we move from the initial idea to the finished product
You’re joining us at an exciting time, we are in the part-way through developing some new products! This month I’ll take you through the product development process here at Pure Vista and hopefully give you an insight into how we get things done. Our process is much like everyone else’s in all other industries. We start with an idea, then move into design before production and finally the selling of the final item.
1. The Initial Idea
At Pure Vista we generally get our ideas from speaking to customer’s finding their needs or frustrations on site.
We receive a wide range of enquiries and have access to many building projects allowing us to see new emerging building design concepts and what the customer will be requiring. The team are always listening to what installers and customers are talking about, suggesting and requiring.
Our aim is, and always has been, to have the most user-friendly systems on the market. These come from the simplest smart ideas using strong high-quality materials but always keeping the installer in mind.
2. Design, Concepts & testing
Now the cogs start turning for Mark and Adam as they start to bounce ideas off each other; make sketches, get louder, demand tea and biscuits and do clever things. When an agreement is made and any obvious design flaws have been fixed, the transition to CAD begins using special computer software. This irons out any weak points, adds strength to profiles where stress levels are too high and visibly seeing a 3D model helps to mold the final design.
At Pure Vista we have our own 3D printer to create first samples of products quickly, this allows us to try installation methods. Making sure the installation will run simply and smoothly in the real world is a big part of our product development.
Now everything is set, a small batch is produced from the Aluminium extrusion plant and other suppliers. In-House testing is carried out which involves the usual testing for building regulations and then the more extreme ‘what if it this happened’ testing. We can then move on to official testing which we carry out at a 3rd party laboratory.
The tests required can change depending on what the product will be used for. For example, our BLASTguard and BULLETguard have undergone extensive testing using explosions and bullets, however these tests are not necessary for a product like the SPIG-LITEadvanced which cannot be used as a blast resistant barrier.
3. Production
This is the easy part; our products are manufactured! A few select installers are shown the products and their workings which gives us an insight on how products will be received. It helps us understand their thinking and how we should approach writing the installation instructions. Once they have been made and the products have passed our quality assurance assessments, we can happily begin to promote and sell the new product. Instruction manuals and product brochures will be created and ready by the time the product is ready for sale. Our warehouses will fill up and be ready for product launch.
4. Selling
Now everything is in place we can hit the GO button. Components have been produced to the highest standards and they are now ready to be used. Our marketing team will let you know that we have something new to try, product samples will be sent and the new product is available in the shop! We’ll wait for installation images to come back and we can use these for further promotion of the product and of the installers.

5. Little extras
We now also offer customer fabrication on some of our channels, this allows the channel to be made to perfectly fit a build without the need for cutting on site (More info here).
For the right project our channels can be powder coated to any color, allowing some wacky and fun building designs.
I also love to see our products in situ, contractors and installers send in some lovely images of finished projects and stunning houses. Not all are suitable to share on social media but it’s interesting to see where our products are. Remember to keep tagging us in your photos, glass staircases, balconies, Juliet balcony, glass railings and handrails. We love to see them all!
So, there you have it, you now know how our products are developed!
If you need help or advise on a project please do contact us, our friendly team are ready to help answer technical Q’s, look at drawings and help you make the right product decisions based on building regulations.
We also have lots of technical guidance on our website, including PDF drawings, installation guides and testing data.
As you might well already know, our online shop is quick and easy to use and it’s open 24/7 so please make the most of it! You will still benefit from quick delivery times and have access to our tech team if you need us.
